Principal Optical Research Engineer

Vicarious Surgical is hiring a Principal Optical Research Engineer to join our team in Waltham, MA. As a technical leader with strong optics / optical expertise, you will apply your experience to contribute to solving complex problems in both the existing Vicarious Surgical System and the broader surgical robotics space. Specifically, as the team subject-matter-expert in camera systems, you will be responsible for contributing to key developments on our novel miniature camera system that will be located inside the patient during surgery. The Research Team includes cross functional team members that facilitate the team's ability to quickly conceive new prototypes from the idea/design/simulation to significantly de-risk for larger scale development.

Vicarious Surgical’s novel approach to surgery uses a combination of proprietary, human-like surgical robots and virtual reality to transport surgeons inside the patient when performing minimally invasive surgery. Our technology was granted Breakthrough Device Designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which provides unique opportunities for our regulatory pathway.

This is a terrific opportunity for an experienced Optics professional to join our company at a very exciting time and be a key member of a team that will bring our robotic solution to the market, offering a cost-effective path to improving patient outcomes and increasing the efficiency of surgical procedures for hospitals.
