A Toolbox for Photonic Entanglement Generation

Entanglement is a uniquely quantum feature that forms the bedrock of quantum information processing.  Using photons as the information carriers, I will examine the generation and characterization of entangled photonic qubits, highlighting some of the quantum weirdness that one can observe in experiments.  I will illustrate the utility of entanglement by considering the promising application of free-space quantum key distribution using entangled photons.

Dr. Franco N. C. Wong received the Ph.D. degree in Applied Physics from Stanford University in 1983.  He is a Senior Research Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  Dr. Wong's research interests focus on applications of nonlinear and quantum optics to precision measurements, quantum and optical communications.  His current research efforts center on the generation of nonclassical entangled states of light for applications in quantum information processing.  He has published extensively in the areas of squeezed states of light, entanglement generation, and optical frequency metrology.
